SYNOPSIS

Deuce Bigalow (Rob Schneider) is forced to leave Malibu for Amsterdam when an accident he caused at the local beach threatens to get him arrested. At the invitation of his old buddy and man-whore pimp T.J. (Eddie Griffin), Deuce decides to relax and have a good time, but before he knows it he’s back in the game trying to find the killer who’s murdering prominent man-whores. Along the way he must eliminate possible suspects, or she-john clients, all of whom have something weird about them (one has an “appendage” where her nose is supposed to be). Deuce also gets tangled up in the high-end stakes of man-whoring as he finds competition from the openly flaunting man-whore society. Naturally, Deuce meets a new love interest along the way, and throughout the story he must find evidence that will exonerate T.J. from being “not gay,” which is a running joke in the movie.

CRITIQUE

It would not be of much use for me to describe this movie in detail or deconstruct its negative aspects. The story is ultimately pretty silly, but something about it makes you want to finish watching it; if only for finding out the identity of the man-whore killer, perhaps. This movie is full of sexual references and innuendo, some of it quite original and funny, such as the various names for sexual maneuvers, including “Portuguese Breakfast”, “Sneaky Castro”, “Chili Rainbow”, “Irish Facial”, “Turkish Snow Cone”, “Cambodian Creamsicle”, and “Filthy Lopez”. You’ll have to figure those out for yourself.

The script is very standard and adheres to clichés whenever it can, but most of all, the majority of the jokes just aren’t that funny. Sure, I laughed at Deuce dropping things on Til Schweiger’s head to prove he’s dead and T.J. beating the hell out of a frisky cat, but these moments are too far and between scenes of unfunny humor. Watch this sequel if you have nothing else to do and/or like the Deuce character. The locations in Amsterdam look pretty cool, and Mike Bigelow’s direction is average at best, although another director probably could’ve done a better job.

THE VIDEO

Sony presents Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. Optional subtitles are English and French.

THE AUDIO

Sony presents Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo in English 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround. Dialogue is fairly clear and easy to understand, and the music comes across quite well through the front speakers. The surrounds are active sporadically, but don’t have an impact in the overall presentation.

THE EXTRAS

Wow, there are two documentaries on here running a good 52 minutes in total that go behind the scenes shooting in Amsterdam. There’s lots of on-set footage and random bits and pieces from the actors having fun. Not a lot of substance, but worth a look if you moderately enjoyed the movie.

The rest of the extras are featurettes on casting a hot woman to play a window washer, following Eddie Griffin on the set of his “Float Crib”, watching commercials on “how to be a man-whore”, and the cast guessing at the meaning of “Chili Rainbow” and more.

The 21-minute Reel Comedy featurette shows more behind-the-scenes and several film clips, but it’s pretty redundant.

Two deleted scenes are also offered, and they’re pretty bad.

FINAL THOUGHT

Watch this movie only for the hell of it, or only to satisfy your curiosity about Deuce’s new hot situation, if even there is any curiosity. Rent it and watch with friends, but other than that skip it.

VERDICT: RENT IT
