SYNOPSIS

For close to 50 years now there has been a Doctor Who television series broadcast in the UK (an thankfully abroad). A well known science fiction series following the exploits of the Doctor; a renegade alien from a race known as the Time Lords and his adventures through time and space.

Assisting those in need and adverting certain disaster throughout the known universe, befriending many along the way. The initial BBC television series started way back in 1963 and ended briefly in 1989 on the 7th Doctor ( The Doctor doesn't exactly die, he regenerates after so many hundreds of years or after certain mortal injuries or traumas).

Then a new updated version of Doctor who started anew in early 2005 with much better special effects, sets, modern stories/settings, lighting and more importantly an increased budget. By far the most popular of the new series is David Tennant as Doctor number 10, whom sadly left the series this past January 2010. The Doctor Who Complete Specials DVD represents the last of the Television specials that aired on Christmas 2008, Easter 2009, Christmas 2009, New Years Eve 2009 & lastly New Years day 2010.

These 5 DVD represent the final outing of the 10th Doctor's adventures, as well as serve as a wrapping up of any loose ends as it were. Giving the audience and fans of Tennant's work a very nice little bit of closure to what has been one of the best Doctor Who series in a long time.

CRITIQUE

I have to admit that I was very sad to hear to hear that David Tennant was leaving Doctor Who, after completing less than 50 episodes total. Most of the original series Doctor Who actors managed to complete on average of 100 episodes, but back then UK television series didn't make only 13 episodes a season like they do now. Though nowadays with the series it is more of a question about quality rather than about quantity, for which this series is all about.

These last few episodes really manages to wrap up everything that was unique and wonderful about the show and go out on a really positive note, despite the overall sadness associated with the end of Tennant's reign as the 10th Doctor.

Technically the 5th season of Doctor Who,  the series consists of 5 a-little-more-than-one-hour episodes presented here on 5 discs. The Next Doctor, The Planet of the Dead, The Waters of Mars, the End of Time Part I and The End of Time Part II.

The Next Doctor: Tells the story of a mysterious man who could very well be the 11th or 12th Doctor, as he seems to know an awful lot about things no one from his supposed

era should rightfully know. Leading the current Doctor who wonder just who is this next Doctor and what are Cybermen doing in London in this particular time period?

Planet of the Dead:
The Doctor meets a beautiful and alluring jewel thief as well as several others while traveling on a bus that is suddenly catapulted thousands of light years away to a barren planet, where something deadly is fast approaching. The Doctor also receives grave news about his impending future and just how it could all come to a premature end.

The Water of Mars: The Doctor arrives on the very first Human colony living on Mars, just before something horrible is predestined to occur. Does the Doctor interfere in established historical events or does he get creative? There are dire consequences either way.

The End of Time Part I: The Doctor is given cryptic information from the equally cryptic Ood about Something is returning, but whom or what is a mystery the Doctor can't resist. As he strives the find out the answers back on Earth, his old arch Nemesis the Master returns. Can this be the end of the Doctor?

The End of Time Part II: The Master has seemingly taken over the world, but this isn't what the Doctor was actually warned about. Something far worse is coming towards the Earth, and no one will survive it's coming, not even Time itself. The final David Tennant Doctor Who episode ever, with shocking repercussions for all Doctor Who fans.

THE VIDEO

The 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen picture is broadcast sharp.  There are no noticeable flaws.
