SYNOPSIS
After seeing a man on TV who looks just like him, Stewie Griffin (a baby on a quest for world domination) sets out on a cross-country road trip in order to find the man who just might be his biological father.
CRITIQUE
What happens when a show that pushes the envelope has no envelope to push? It falls apart. What makes the show Family Guy (and other shows of this type) so much fun is how much the creators try and get away with while still staying within the boundaries set by the network. Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story (a three episode “movie”) is unnecessarily vulgar and sadly, very unfunny. There are a few well timed gags, but not enough to make the story worth watching.
THE VIDEO
Nothing much to say about the transfer, it’s crisp and clear. Colors are balanced and the black levels are consistent.
THE AUDIO
Stewie Griffin is presented in 5.1 Dolby Surround, but it doesn’t use it at all.
THE EXTRAS
Audio Commentary by Seth McFarlane and the Cast and Writers: An okay commentary track, it gives the listener some good information as to why these three episodes were released this way, as opposed to part of the actual show.
Animatic Comparison: Animatics and their finalized versions.
There are also several trailers.
FINAL THOUGHT
Many fans of the series will be pleased. Those not familiar with the show should watch a few episodes before trying out the Untold Story.
