SYNOPSIS

The action reaches all-new heights in Volume 4 of the landmark X-Men animated series. With adventures adapted directly from the original Marvel comic books, this collection is a rich piece of the X-Men legacy and a must-have for every X-Men fan. The X-Men must join forces with the heroes of the future when Apocalypse, a mighty mutant, is driven completely mad by his powers! Discover the stunning conclusion to the 4-part epic “Beyond Good And Evil” in this sensational 14-episode set.

CRITIQUE

Volume 4 contains the 4-part episode “Beyond Good And Evil,” with is probably the best of the series. Fans of the animated series should pick up this 2-disc DVD set for these four episodes alone. Nearly every mutant in the series makes a cameo in this story and it features villains working together to stop a common evil in the mutant Apocalypse.

This mini-series includes the series debut of comic-favorite Psylocke, and appearances from the likes of Bishop, Cable, Archangel, and Mr. Sinister just to name a few. Sanctuary includes the first real appearance of “Asteroid M,” Magneto’s home base.

Finally, viewers should avoid the episode “Have Yourself A Morlock Little X-Mas,” which is the token holiday episode geared towards an even younger audience than the norm.

THE VIDEO

X-Men is presented in 1.33:1 full screen. These episodes actually look pretty good. Colors are solid. Artifacts are not present, no pixilation either.

THE AUDIO

X-Men is presented in a fairly standard but good English language transfer.

THE EXTRAS

The only bonus here is Sneak Previews for other Disney releases.

FINAL THOUGHT

Volume 4 seemingly sets up a fifth volume (as it ends with the Season 4 finale), but seeing as Season 5 was probably the worst of the series, there isn’t much to look forward to.

VERDICT: RECOMMENDED TO FANS
