SYNOPSIS
The wildly popular
series where comedian Dave Chappelle takes his street-smart brand
of comedy to another level, CHAPPELLE'S SHOW - SEASON TWO
UNCENSORED consists of hysterical sketches, pop culture parodies
and live musical performances. Season Two finds Dave Chappelle
taking on American culture from the streets to the 'burbs, and
everything in between.
CRITIQUE
The second
season of Chappelle’s show vastly outdoes the premiere season in
terms of humor. However, the second season is equally outlandish
and creative. Brushing off critics of his controversial season 1
“black white supremacist” sketch, Dave Chappelle retorts with a
season 2 sketch about a white family named the “Niggars.” Right
off the bat in Episode 1 viewers are treated to one of the
funniest skits of the entire second season (in which Dave looks at
events in slow motion- by exaggerating normal activities). Episode
5 also stands out due to the hilarious True Hollywood Story about
Prince. The image of Prince floating in air after a dunk is
priceless.
No season is
perfect though as Season 2 contains skits like “The World Series Of
Dice” and the game show “I Know Black People” which are no where near
as funny as some of the other skits. Also, some viewers might complain
about the length of most episodes (one was as low as 16 minutes) and
mediocre show-ending musical performances that are usually taped in
advance and off-stage. Even so, with the overall quality of Season 2
Chappelle is nicely carving his niche as the best sketch comedian
today.

THE EXTRAS
Extra stand-up
comedy from Dave:
Not really
stand-up, more like extended show introductions with ramblings
from Dave.
Over 1 hour of
bloopers and deleted scenes:
Pretty entertaining
and interesting- You learn that Wayne Brady had second thoughts about
a critical line in his skit.
2 unaired Charlie
Murphy stories:
These are only him
telling the stories- no skits.
The Rick James
extended interview:
More informative
than comedic.
Audio commentary
by Dave Chappelle and series co-creator Neal Brennan on select
episodes.
FINAL THOUGHTS
With the third
season in jeopardy (due to personal reasons), Season 2 may be
Chappelle’s best (and last) season and is a definite must have for
fans of the series.
VERDICT: HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED
