SYNOPSIS
Washington
D.C.’s
DAR Constitution Hall hosts comedian Chris Rock’s fourth stand-up
special.
CRITIQUE
I’ve always enjoyed
Chris Rock’s comedy. I loved his time on Saturday Night Live. I loved
his previous HBO specials. He is a great performer and his social
commentary and insights are always dead on. His current special,
Never Scared, is Rock doing his thing. It isn’t his best special,
but it is still pretty funny. Rock tackles issues such as defending
rap, Michael Jackson, the war, and even the difference between being
rich and wealthy. While not his best work, Never Scared is
definitely a well done show.
THE VIDEO
The transfer is
standard. Everything looks crisp and clean and there no problems that
I can notice.
THE AUDIO
The audio mix is
standard as well. Rock’s voice always rises above the audience’s
laughter and is never lost, even the few times when he speaks softly.
THE EXTRAS
Chris Rock: Big
Ass Jokes – Chris Rock’s first half hour special is a lot of fun
and, at some points, has more laughs than the feature.
OVERALL
It’s a nice concert
disc. Maybe not something to own, but a definite rental for fans of
Rock.
VERDICT: RECOMMENDED
