SYNOPSIS
Welcome back to
Sealab, the underwater research facility containing cyborgs,
rappers, mental patients, and a woman who will bare her breasts
for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Starring the voices of Harry
Goz, Erik Estrada, Bill Lobley, Brett Butler, Kate Miller and
Ellis Henican.
CRITIQUE
The second season
of Sealab 2021 contains some of the best and some of the worst
episodes ever made for the show. On one hand, there are hilarious
shows such as “Hail, Squishface” (a spoof of Gremlins, Aliens, and a
few other horror films) and “Vacation” (in which Quinn tries to take a
vacation from Sealab and the chaos that ensues.)
On the other, there
are shows like “7211” (an episode that is played straight, which in
itself is funny, but the episode quickly looses its charm) and
“Bizarro” (which has some great moments but is really annoying at the
same time.) While the show isn’t for anyone, the second season of
Sealab will keep fans of the series in stitches.
THE VIDEO
The transfer looks
really good. The images are clean and sharp, especially since most of
the show is taken from the old 1970’s Sealab 2020 show.
THE AUDIO
The audio is
presented in Dolby 2.0 and sounds good. The mix is nothing special,
just the standard TV mix.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary by the
70-30 Crew:
The crew of 70-30 spend the first seven episodes talking about the
show, then start goofing off for the rest. Not really worth listening
to, although there are some interesting things said in the beginning.
A Tribute to Harry
Goz:
Members of the cast and crew talk about what it was like to work with
Harry Goz, the voice of Captain Murphy. A nice little tribute.
20 Questions with
the Cast:
The animated cast talks about the show. Not that interesting to watch.
Take a Tour of
70-30:
Apparently everyone that works at 70-30 are bikini clad women.
Rough Cut of “Der
Dieb”:
Bikini models act out the episode “Der Dieb.” Poorly.
Ronnie:
A deleted episode. This never made it past a (real) rough cut. No cast
voices were used in the making of this, somewhat interesting episode.
OVERALL
While the show
content is worth checking out, everything else can be skipped.
VERDICT: RENT IT
