SYNOPSIS
What happens
when a classic 60s Hanna-Barbera
superhero gets his own late-night talk show? Pure, unmitigated
chaos. Featuring Space Ghost, bandleader Zorak, producer Moltar,
and many of their unsuspecting
guests, this third volume 2-disc DVD contains 24 extended
episodes of the
Ghost Planet crew experimenting with their own post-modern,
ill-timed, utterly hilarious brand of late night chaos. Watch
Space Ghost's definitive interviews with real celebrities whose
expressions reveal everything from awkward puzzlement
to an
obvious hangover.
CRITIQUE
I watched the Volume
1 release of Space Ghost in November 2003 and thought it
was a fun show. A year and a half later Volume 3 arrives at my
door so I check it out, but after seeing a few episodes I got
bored. The show is basically the same as it was before, and most
of the attempts at humor and making jokes fall flat this time
around. Other Internet journalists/reviewers seem to like the show
a lot, but I just didn't find much to like. There's better Adult
Swim programming around, such as Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law,
a very funny show.
THE VIDEO
Warner Bros. presents
Space Ghost in 1.33:1 fullscreen format. The animation
looks decent and the picture quality reflects that. Colors look
nice but not quite saturated enough, and there are some other
small (digital) flaws, though I didn't really find them
distracting.
THE AUDIO
Warner Bros. presents
Space Ghost in an English 2.0 soundtrack. Dialogue is
easy to understand and the music cues are presented fairly well,
too. Standard stuff.
THE EXTRAS
Five commentaries
are available though none of them are particularly interesting,
but fans may think otherwise. Other extras include deleted
scenes for Switcheroo, an alternate ending for
Zorak, A Moment with Jon Stewart interview footage,
a World Premiere Toon In episode, and an extended
interview with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross (who appear in the
episode Gallagher). Lastly the episode Boatshow is
presented in 5.1 Surround, but I digress.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Fans of the show
will want to own this 2-disc DVD set featuring 24 extended
episodes.
VERDICT: RENT IT
