Sometimes
you may use somebody to get something. Alvin (Jamie Foxx), a
petty thief, has a big score. It's to steal prongs (shrimp), but
he's busted soon after. While in jail, he befriends John Jaster
(Robert Pastorelli). Jaster has a servere heart problem and is
on the verge of dying. But what Alvin doesn’t know is that
Jaster is involved in a high- tech robbery.
The
amount stolen is $ 40 million in gold bars. Jaster tells Alvin
where the gold is hidden. But what Alvin doesn’t know is that
the FBI is looking for the gold. Jaster's partner in crime,
technology whiz kid Bristol (Doug Hutchison), is still on the
loose. So how can they lure Bristol out of the clear blue? They
need Bait. So they choose Alvin to get to Bristol. The
catch is, Alvin doesn’t know what's going on. Inevitably, the
chase is on.
While
watching Bait, you may think of other films. For example,
Blue Streak mixed with bits of 48 Hours and the
technology of Enemy of the State. But with all of that, Bait
was enjoyable and very funny. Jamie Foxx is the main star of Bait.
Last year, we've seen him as a football player in Oliver Stone's
Any Given Sunday. In it, Foxx showed that he's a funny,
yet serious actor. After, he was in Held Up, a pretty bad
movie. Soon after it came out, it was clear Foxx needed a good
movie. Bait is it. He was very funny and showed us some
of his funniest acts.
Bait
has a good supporting cast. There is David Morse (The Green
Mile) as the U.S Treasury investigator Clenteen. Following
is Kimberly Elise (Beloved) as Alvin's girlfriend Lisa and Jamie
Kennedy ( Scream trilogy) as one of Clenteen's team
members.
The
main cast and supporting cast worked well together. The way they
used modern day technology in this movie was pretty cool, but of
course we'ver already been exposed to it in Enemy of the
State. Bait may not be the most original movie of the
year but it was good and does deserve to be looked at. If you
see this film you will not be disappointment. You'll get you
money's worth.
