Unlike other movie reviewers I don’t go to movies to review them. I see only the movies I think I will like and then, after I see a movie, I review it. Gossip had an interesting idea behind it. Or I thought it did. How Gossip can be a dangerous weapon. How words can destroy, if enough people come to believe those words as truth. How rumors take on lives of their own.

For me, that is about as interesting as the movie got. I found the entire movie, which took place at a University that apparently only admitted magnificent looking people, convoluted and stupid with an brainless ending. The script was so poor that I can only believe that whoever wrote it was under 15 years old.

The best part of the movie was that it only lasted an hour and a half.

Gossip is about three college roommates - arrogant Derrick Webb (James Marsden), withdrawn Travis (Norman Reedus), and cute and honest Cathy Jones (Lena Headey). The three are taking a course together, taught by Dr. James Goodwin (Eric Bogosian) that discusses the value and meaning of gossip, as compared to news, in one of the classes. The roommates decide to do the final project together. Start a rumor and see how long it takes to spread. The rest is too stupid to write about.

It gets worse as it continues until it self destructs in one of the poorest endings I have ever seen. Surely someone had something else in mind when they decided to write this screen play. I certainly had something else in mind when I went to see it.

I give this movie a 3 out of 10. I looked at my watch 10 or more times. I fell asleep twice. I would never watch this movie again.
