Schwarzenegger tried to make up his
absence with 1999's End of Days but failed. Not only was that movie terrible, it wasn't the box office success that
he had hoped for. So he tries again with The 6th Day.
Too bad it's failing at the box office as well, but at least it's not as bad as
End of Days.
In the not too distant future, cloning has become a reality. If your pet dog dies, you can go to RePet and clone it. The clone will remember everything that the original dog knew before it died and you couldn't tell if it was a clone or not. But the cloning of humans was unsuccessful and so it became illegal. Cloning a human would be breaking the "sixth day violation". But yet, there are people
practicing it regardless, one of whom is Drucker (Tony Goldwyn).
Enter Adam Gibson (Arnold Schwarzenegger), an ordinary helicopter pilot. Adam and his partner Hank (Michael Rappaport) are just flying Drucker to a ski resort when something goes wrong.
When Adam gets home, he finds someone that looks exactly like him, blowing out the candles on his birthday cake. And now Adam is
hunted down by Drucker's henchmen.
Action is supposed to be exciting in a movie but this is the perfect example of when it's not. There wasn't a single action scene that
sparked excitement in me. I was just sitting in my chair, bored to death.
Adam is a likable guy, thanks to Arnold. The rest of the cast didn't do much for the movie: the bad guys are just plain
boring. I have no idea why Robert Duvall signed on to this film,
and Hank is just a goofball with a virtual girlfriend. Even Adam's family failed to stir up any emotion.
Well, at least the special effects are nice. The action scenes have a decent amount of good special effects (but special effects don't make them exciting). The special effects were easily the best part of the whole film.
