By Bronco,
who's based on an urban legend.
"Not
close to being the final cut"
The first
Urban Legend movie came out in 1998, and made only about $38 million. So, why is there a need for a sequel to a movie that didn't even make money... and got trashed by critics? I don't think we'll ever know.
The setting here is a film school. Students are competing for the "Hitchcock Award", where the winner will get instant fame in Hollywood. Amy Mayfield (Jennifer Ottman) gets an idea on what her film should be about: a serial killer who bases his/her killings on urban legends.
After getting the idea approved by Professor Solomon (Hart Bochner), she gets to work on it. Then you guessed it! Amy's crew starts to get killed off by someone in a fencing mask, and the killings are based on urban legends.
There are a couple of other details about the story that I won't waste my time on. The movie is way predictable, you can guess which characters are going to live by the end. I wasn't playing the "guess who the killer is" game, but the person I was watching the movie with was, and he guessed it right, and we were only 20 minutes into it.
The performances were horrible, but these "actors" are a bunch of no-names. I only knew of Anthony Anderson, who played one of Jim Carrey's sons in
Me, Myself & Irene. He has a few amusing lines, but that's
about it.
Urban Legends: Final Cut is a horrible Scream wannabe. It is not scary, not
suspenseful, and there's not much entertainment in it. It may not be the worst film of 2000, but it's
close. Let's just all hope this becomes a forgotten urban legend.
